Intersting David seeing as that Strobist is not a registered trademark in the UK. Which I am pretty sure means that you hold no control over its referencing globally.

Will you be filing complaints with, Photographer monthly, Photo Icon, Practical Photography, Joe Mcnally and anyone else who uses the made up sterm of Strobism?

Coining a phrases in public domain then makes it public domain.

This is hardly the place for such a debate, perhaps you would like to take it up on your own blog and I will follow.

I have to say that The course at Garage Studios on Flash photography is brilliant and well worth the time and money.

Hello-

My name is David Hobby and I publish the actual Strobist.com site. You may not know this, but Strobist is not a generic word. I coined it in 2006 to be the name of my company which teaches about small-flash lighting.

While I strongly support anyone who endeavours to teach small flash lighting to others, I must insist that you do not use the name of my company to do so. I have worked very, very hard to establish Strobist.com -- including personally writing nearly 2,000 articles and posts. Your calling your lighting seminars by my business' name is to say the least very confusing to potential students. To make matters worse, I do teach classes in the UK (including two London classes this December) so the possibility for confusion is more than theoretical.

Thank you for understanding that STROBIST™ is the only source of income for my family and as such it is my responsibility to do everything in my legal power to protect the company's name. Please, please choose a different name for your classes.

Thanks again for understanding, and please email me to let me know you got this notice. I make every effort to keep these kinds of matters as just being between photographers, and that will help.

Thanks much,
David
