The course is aimed at those who have an interest in photography but are looking for further inspiration……

We will look at some Camera Use but is more a visual theory based course- with students encouraged to take on practical exercises each week.

Areas will include:
Composition and Subject.
Aperture control.
Shutter Speed.
Picking the right lens.
Types of Camera to use. (the benefits and drawbacks of different formats).
Metering.
Individual Projects.

More key to the course is the photographers work we look at, split into easy to to understand sections and including seminal photographers such as Stephen Shore, Sally Mann, Diane Arbus, Gary Winogrand, Dorothea Lange, William Eggleston and Robert Frank.

This is not an exhaustive list, and is fairly heavily planted in American photography. This course will be also led by feedback from students over the 8 weeks- If you have an area of interest we will try to cover it.

We will also be looking at the above, and how it can help you understand your own photography. It’s only an 8 week course, but you should leave feeling not only knowledgeable about your camera, but also full of projects and ideas for shoots, right through from Street to Studio. Each week we will set a specific project or exercise which we expect you to complete before the following session. We will then hold a critique for your work in a group session, allowing you to be more objective about your work and the work of others.
