The course will help you understand various photographic techniques, qualities, and effects, using simple technical information and practical exercises. The course will help you to think more creatively about the style and content of your photography.
This course runs over two days; the first day focusing on practising techniques learnt, whilst the second day reviews the photographs you took on the first day, and management of film, post-processing and archiving. Rewards points if you arrive with a good attitude.
On the course you will learn about:
• Using any camera to its full potential
• Approaching composition and what makes a good subject
• Shooting simpler – reducing decisions before you take a shot
• Making the most of available light and basic flash techniques
• Photoshop essentials.
• Managing an archive of your digital photos and their negative cousins
Typical itinerary:
Day One:
After a morning of learning about composition, subject and simple camera techniques, we will go out onto the streets of Brighton with a list of 66 photographs to shoot on 2 rolls of film, or digitally. The exercise is designed to make you thinking-fast and creatively about your photography so you never miss a photo opportunity again. There will be 1-2-1 time with each student during the exercise, as well as take part so that you can see what he achieves too.
Day Two:
On day two we will review the photographs shot from the first session and discuss what worked and how you can improve. After the review, students will head out onto the street again to shoot a self-set photography brief so you can learn how to approach a subject more in depth. The second day’s shoot will be shot digitally so that the work can be reviewed in the studio. To finish off we will look at how to archive an ever-expanding photograph collection, basic Photoshop and how to get your work seen by a wider audience.
You will need:
No experience
A lomo camera or similar film camera (if you have one, however we can supply one if you need)
A digital camera for day two
An enthusiasm for being creative
A pen and notepad
