Jess Eaton

So we posted one of the images from Wednesday’s shoot of Jess Eaton’s collection, here are some of our favourites from the day. All hair and make-up by Jess Eaton (she has many skills) all shot by Kevin, with Lighting by Kevin and Kenny, and assisted by Zoe Baker and Beth Steddon.

Models, Ellie, Jocasta, Fanny and Martha.

All fur/feathers etc in this collection are from donations/roadkill or by products of natural death etc- this will no doubt be a fairly controversial body of work by Jess. The pieces themselves have been incredibly beautifully made, with a flair but also intense attention to detail. They are, no matter what your take on the ethics, a real delight to photograph, and we have no doubt you’ll be seeing pieces appear in Fashion Magazines real soon.

Spindle Magazine- Issue 4

So Spindle launches again tonight, and we are very excited to see this issue. We shot a cover that we are really proud of, finding an amazing model and working a strong shoot out of it as well, with the body fabulous Rene Campbell. Also very keen to see the full spread of Natasha Alipour-Faridani’s Menswear shoot which she shot fairly recently in London.

Heather does an incredible job with this magazine, especially when print media is still struggling to find an audience, so come down to the launch at The Haunt, Brighton tonight from 11pm and grab a copy, buy a beer, show some support for Heather, her team and all the contributors. We love shooting covers for Spindle, as well as shooting the Source covers, its a real privilege to work with both magazines, that are staffed by very dedicated teams and are at the heart of Brighton culture.

Issue 4 is titled “Perfection?” consists of interviews with child beauty queen Chloe Steadman and we photographed the amazing Rene, female bodybuilder and our new cover star, as well as fashion interviews with Mr Lipop and Fam Irvoll.

Here is a shot of Kevin with Rene. Photography, clearly not a healthy lifestyle….

Jess Eaton- Roadkill Collection

Yesterday we spent many hours shooting the new collection of Brighton based Jess Eaton which debuted at Brighton Fashion Week Couture Show last friday.

This is just a little taster of what’s to come, shot by Kevin, lit in equal parts by Kevin Mason/Kenny McCracken and assisted by Zoe Baker/Beth Steddon.

Julianna Heale Lookbook

A couple of weeks ago we shot for Stylist Julianna Heale in the grounds of her house in Fernhurst. As it was a really sunny day, and there were some really great areas of texture cast by the sun we decided to work with the natural daylight and just use reflectors to bounce some extra light in.

Editorial with Georgie Hobday

Heather Falconer, of Spindle Magazine, and a stylist that we love to collaborate with due to her great eye for individual pieces from both emerging and established designers. She called up last week at 4pm saying she had some pieces to return to London the next day, but that they hadn’t been shot yet. So we rustled up Georgie Hobday, who tore herself away from her a-level coursework and had a little hour long shoot.

The idea was to keep this very simple, more out of necessity that a stylistic decision- as we didn’t have time to grab a Hair/MakeUp artist, but Georgie doesn’t really need an MUA fortunately and with a little bit of encouragement from Kevin and Heather she was able to make a decent stab at a hair-do.

Polaroid 1200.

The lighting in this was also very simple, just 2 sliver shoot-into umbrellas, one up high angled down at camera left and the second very low, angled up, camera right, with maybe a 1 1/2 stop difference. We never normally shoot with umbrellas, far too easily convinced that the results resemble school photography we sat through as kids, but Dave Imms, who is assisting here a lot now, swears by the simple umbrella and so Kevin gave it a go. The results are really nice, and definitely showed us that simple is often best, especially when it fits the theme here. The backdrop varied between a charcoal colorama and the black polyboards.

These have become some of our favourite shots of Hobday, and so we thought we’d post three of them here, whilst beth is still proofreading the bursary award page.

Many thanks to Heather and Georgie. The designers are, Leather Jacket and Black/Gold dress Mrs Jones, Yellow Flower skirt, Fam Irvoll.

Derriere Shoot

If you haven’t yet experienced the vintage blues phenomenon that is Brighton based band Derriere, you may very well have encountered their notorious front woman Sarah Gardner. This girl has a voice that will melt your bones…

Ophelia Fancy Promo shoot- New Collection

We are pleased to announce that we can finally show you the Ophelia Fancy promo images that we shot for their new collection. When Stevi and Emma talked about the new designs we could see that it needed a different approach- something very stripped back and less props than previous shoots. The girls had been thinking in the same area as well as it would focus more on the designs, and the ‘feel’ of being Ophelia Fancy and fit the new direction the brand is taking.

We sourced a few locations- but ultimately Kevin had his heart set on a Karaoke booth setting, with the aim of utilising the vibrant leather look booths as a simple but striking backdrop, and bringing in a vintage microphone as the only prop. The Ophelia girls changed this idea to a Disco era microphone which they spray painted gold- a much better idea, and far less cliched.

With this simple prop, a long gold cable, and a killer location we set to work. The rooms at Nine Rooms are perfect, but quite small for a lot of lighting kit, so we lit all this with at most 4 grid Bowens 500W running off of two travel paks. As all the lighting is very direct we have also gelled several of the lights to either fit in, or play off against the background of the set.

Lighting Assistants Natasha Alipour-Faridani and Markus Milcke.

We had to work quickly and managed to wrap the whole shoot including loading and unloading in less than 4 hours, which considering the space we had to work in, we were pretty happy with, the benefit of having details locked down before getting on location.

The theme for the Hair/Make-Up was a very clear nod to Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction and the wig was cut and Styled by Ricardo at Square Roots. The make-up brief was perfectly fufilled by Bebe Newson, who made brighton model Tess look sensational here.

If you need promo images, fashion editorial or lookbook shoots then please get in touch as we have a very easy rate system that can accomodate most budgets.

Ophelia Fancy- LookBook and New collection shoot.

We have worked with lingerie designers Ophelia Fancy for about 4 years now- we first shot a collection of theirs when Kevin and Matt had 2 Studio lights, no studio to shoot in, little technical knowledge and no experience of shooting ‘models’ but a lot of naive enthusiasm. Somehow that first shoot was a success and we have worked very closely with Stevi and Emma to develop a visual style for their brand, one that hopefully works with each new collection- and we are extremely pleased with the most recent campaign which will be released very soon.

This new collection is another step forward for Ophelia Fancy, and we have tried to give a polished, commercial look to the images whilst retaining the ‘spirit’ of Ophelia Fancy. We also had to shoot the LookBook for this new collection as well and got the chance to work again with Tess Dimos, and you can see a little taste of that shoot below.

If you would like rates for our LookBook or Product shoots then please mail we can work on a per item basis and you’ll find a professional shoot is cheaper than you would think- and will help increase sales and orders from stockists. It’s important to not let your product or designs down with poor photography- after all this is often the first chance to make an impression and therefore a sale.

Here are a few (if we uploaded them all then you’d never get to the end of this post) of our previous shoots for them, from Limited Edition to full collections, as you can see we really enjoy having them as clients, its given us hours of fun as they always have very strong ideas but are also very demanding- its a good mix….
