Fashion Editorial Shoot Video at Garage Studios

Kevin Mason and team shot a Fashion editorial recently and one of our buddies Andy Parker came along to film some footage on his Nikon D300s, unfortunately late running and battery issues means he missed all of Matt Halls amazing set work, and Tash’s killer lighting on the final set-ups, but we think this film gives a little feel of what its like to shoot with Kevin and the team. (The odd colour balance is caused by our red halogen lights- which we use to heat the studio when shooting with strobes).

Georgie Hobday- Thuggin With Passion @garage studios

The model is Georgie Hobday, a Garage Regular, and outstanding talent, who was picked due to her love of Notorious BIG and Wu-Tang for this English Rose meets Thugged Out HipHop themed shoot. All the furs are vintage and models own, the Styling is by Emma SandhamKing, with Jewellery from Baroque, more credits to follow.

There was a big Garage Team on this shoot, but lighting was Natasha Alipour-Faridani (our in house Product photography expert- who also teaches on our Studio Lighting courses) and all Hair and Make-Up by Square Roots, North St Brighton.

The filming of this was a last minute thing, but we are going to try and get more coverage on our Fashion shoots now, as we have all been so inspired by the Show Studio Live Feeds and we’ll get two cameras on it next time. Any thoughts or comments, good or bad, we’d love to hear them…

Built For Sin lookbook shoot at Garage Studios

The ever wonderful model, designer and drummer SJ Whiteley asked us recently to shoot her new collection for the label she runs, Built For Sin. I think the full range of the collection will be up on her site soon, and we will update links when it goes up, but we thought we’d include a few outtakes as it was a pretty amusing shoot.

The backdrop was designed and painted by Brighton based illustrator and set artist Brain Of Alex Young. on top of some very wrinkled wallpaper, and was based on Jim Phillips skate graphics, whilst taking colours and themes from the actual Built For Sin collection, with additional set work and direction by M.Halls.

So here are a few outtakes, in between lighting tests, shot by K.Mason asst by N.Alipour-Faridani, oh dont worry we did actually get some proper photos as well and we have included one of SJ just so you believe us…

Actors Head Shots

Actors head shots are a funny thing to shoot. Looking at the images on Spotlight, the style of photography for the headshots that are required for actors, doesn’t really have seemed to have changed for a very long time.

Its also a big challenge to try and capture someones versatility in one shot, knowing that this image will be used for a few years and will be the picture that may or may not get them work.

Saying all of that, we’ve just had to lovely people come to the studio looking for shots for them. Both are Brighton actors who’s credits include such cult TV as Minder, The Sweeney, Dr. Who, EastEnders, The Proffesional and Grange Hill.

So we did a head shot session for them with the classic 10×8 format. After that shot was in the bag and they were happy, we did a few different set ups to give them something else to use should they need it.

Plain Lazy kids

We did some photography a while ago for a great fashion company called Plain Lazy. The shoot comprised of quite a few different sets and trying to convince babies and young kids to keep still and act up for the camera.

Amazingly there was only one tantrum and we caught that on camera just at the right moment! The kids (with a little encouragement) got into the spirit of things and didn’t mind at one point lying down next to very smelly 3 day old Chinese take away.

You can see some of the shots on the Plain Lazy website here.
